Thanks for your comments Sue; you are right my challenges are very different to yours. Your comments have made me consider what strategies I use to motivate myself through long term challenges... I seem to break them down into smaller tasks that are achievable in timescales that inspire me rather than overwhelm me. For example my website has evolved section by section and grown over the last five years and I have enjoyed the step by step process as I achieved all my mini goals, however, if I had set myself the goal to do the whole thing in 6 months that would have overwhelmed me and I probably wouldn’t have been motivated enough to do it properly. You mentioned being crushed by other people successes, my own strategies are to be inspired by others and then to understand how they motivated themselves, what they did to succeed, that’s why I love reading autobiographies. Thanks for your support Sue

The cliche that every long journey starts with just one step is very true.
John, you losing the weight that you want to is quite a modest challenge in the world of weight watching, but to those of us who have a lot to lose it is very daunting, that first step has got to appear worthwhile because there are so many more to take. You can set as many small interim goals as you like along the way, but you cannot forget how many there may have to be. I am always easily overwhelmed by a big task, and crushed if someone else manages it better.
There is so much advice out there, and failure hits home very hard indeed. Even if you reach your full target there is till the worry of maintaining it, as you say.
It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds for you, and what you find out about yourself. Conny does the cooking I believe, that makes it easier straight away.
I could do what you are doing with no problem at all, but could you do what I have to do, all 3 stone of it and obviously over a much longer period of time.
I am going to be very interested in your diary, you will succeed of course but I wish you luck anyway. Again, as you say, it is all very much to do with the unconscious mind, coincidentally your field of expertise. Sue

Hi John, this is so true I have never noticed this before. I clearly have a more external locus of control! Can you send me your test?

Hello John, I was browsing the net as i am about to undertake a diploma in Hypnotherapy Counselling and Psychotherapy. I listened to your motivation download and was suprised that I was able to relax, can't wait to have the same effect on people myself.
